Free co-working space will open in downtown Racine

A free co-working space is expected to open in downtown Racine next month, modeled after similar initiatives in Milwaukee. “Launch Box,” a program started two years ago by the Racine County Economic Development Corp., has helped connect entrepreneurs and small businesses to area resources that offer business services and mentor opportunities, said Kristin Niemiec, Launch Box manager. Now Launch Box is moving into its next phase with nearly 2,700 square feet at 141 Main St. that sat vacant since the building’s 2006 construction. Interested businesses and entrepreneurs will be asked to sign up as members, and in return receive free, 24/7 access to the office that includes wireless Internet, free coffee, a conference room and an open office area with couches,
tables and chairs, Niemiec said.
