Porters of Racine building set for $6.5M rehab

The owners of the vacant Porters of Racine building, which occupies a full block of the city’s downtown, have lined up financing to renovate the building into apartments and plan to start construction in November. The project, first announced in 2012, will be complete by late 2014 or mid-2015, depending on the construction schedule. The Waters family, which operated the Porters store and owns the building, plan to renovate it for $6.5 million into 37 market-rate apartments with 6,200 square feet of first-floor office and retail space, said Micah Waters
