County tax rate decreases

YORKVILLE — The Racine County Board has formally approved the county’s property tax levy for next year, which will result in a tax rate of $3.66 per $1,000 of assessed property value.  The tax rate is down from the 2014 rate of $3.74, meaning the owner of a $100,000 home would see an $8 decrease in their county taxes if the property value remains unchanged.  Officials say that county taxes on a given property, on average, will remain the same. ... SC Johnson donates $500,000 to Women’s Resource Center

BURLINGTON — The Women’s Resource Center of Racine has received a $500,000 donation from SC Johnson to launch its $1.5 million capital campaign, the company and center have announced.  Funds are earmarked for the development of a shelter in Burlington to meet the needs of those affected by domestic violence. Racine to pursue $1M cleanup grant for Machinery Row project

The city of Racine plans to pursue a $1 million grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. to clean up asbestos and lead from the Machinery Row development project site near downtown Racine.  The idle industrial sites grant – which the city has a few weeks to apply for – would help pay for cleaning up the lead paint inside an existing building and the ground contamination of the property.
